Dalam rangka JILF 2022 yang akan diselenggarakan di TIM, kami bercita-cita untuk membawa Danarto pulang ke kota. Walau lahir dan besar di Sragen, berkuliah seni lukis di Yogyakarta, dan bolak-balik menelusuri masjid-masjid di berbagai kawasan pantai utara Jawa, sejak 1964, Danarto tinggal di Jakarta sampai akhir hayatnya.
Held as part of the 17th Istanbul Biennial (at the Barın Han Studio), the materials brought into this edition of Taman Bacaan Danarto are selected based on the tools and keywords indicated in bold in the introduction and framed into the triangular relationship between concretism, sufism, and worlds/realms —in bahasa, both ‘alam’ (Turkish: doğal?) and ‘dunia’ (Turkish: dunya).
This research trajectory aims to unravel stories about, behind, and surrounding the lifelong artistic practice of the painter Kustiyah (1935-2012), who began studying in Yogyakarta’s art school ASRI in 1953, the era that is said to be the golden years of the newly independent country, Indonesia.
